ECT Induction in BSO Accredited Schools - Information for Schools

One of the advantages of BSO accreditation is the option to offer ECT Induction to Early Career Teachers (ECTs) who hold QTS. An international school may only employ ECTs and support them through Statutory Induction if they have, within the last 6 years, had a successful DfE BSO inspection and taken full membership of one of the 6 membership associations recognised by the DfE. The Association of British Schools Overseas (AoBSO) is one of these.

By holding a BSO accreditation, your school will be more attractive to new teachers to the profession who want to complete their ECT inducton overseas.

In addition to BSO accreditation and association membership, your employing school must work with an Appropriate Body (AB) to support you in your Induction Year. The appointment of an Appropriate Body (AB) is a statutory requirement for the ECT Induction process in BSO schools. The AB monitors each ECT’s Induction through termly assessment and makes the final recommendation to the DfE's Teaching Regulation Agency (TRA) on the outcome of Induction.

How do I find an Appropriate Body?

One of the benefits of AoBSO membership is a preferential support from ESP Education and their AB partners the Arthur Terry TSH. If your school would like to offer ECT Induction you can contact ESP on mark@espeducation.co.uk
