Spring 2020

I hope that 2020 has started well for you and your school, and I’d like to update on developments at AoBSO.

The Annual Conference last November in Richmond was very well attended had excellent speakers, and feedback from participants has been positive. Work has already started on planning for the 2020 event. This will be held from 18-20 November 2020, once again at Richmond Hill Hotel, London.

  • AoBSO representatives and I had a very positive meeting at the DfE in January and covered topics such as the work of inspectorates, NQT induction and close cooperation with the DfE for benefit of BSO schools. Full details of this meeting have been circulated to member schools.

  • We have had productive conversations with other associations, most recently with FOBISIA and BSME, with a view to cooperation that avoids duplication.

  • The recently expanded AoBSO Committee met in London in January and worked on plans for future development, collaboration with other DfE recognised associations and next year’s London Conference.

  • Our website has been relaunched to better reflect the aims of the association and to provide more information about BSO accreditation, membership and guidance on British education overseas.

Mark Bignell, our Executive Officer, and Izzy Hall, our Association Secretary, are happy to receive enquiries and membership applications and can be contacted on admin@aobso.uk.

As the only DfE membership association where all members have completed the DfE’s BSO inspection scheme within the last 3 years I would recommend you consider this alongside any existing association memberships your school may already hold.

AoBSO is unique and is our members are intrinsically linked to the DfE back home in the UK.
