Who is eligible for AoBSO membership?

AoBSO is the only DfE recognised British international schools membership association solely for schools who have successfully receive DfE British Schools Overseas (BSO) accreditation.

AoBSO membership allows your school a number of benefits that ensure that you are supported as one of the externally validated, best British schools in the world.

What are the criteria for membership?

  • The school must have received, within the last 3 years, BSO accreditation through one of the Ofsted monitored inspectorates. For 2022/2023 this is extended to any school who has had BSO within the last 4 years or has received a COVID-19 BSO extension from the DfE.

  • The school must offer a majority British curriculum that prepares students for DfE recognised examinations.

  • The primary language of instruction and operating language of the school must be English.

  • All teachers, including Headteachers, must be legally employed and suitably qualified.

  • The school must be licensed and/or registered with the Ministry of Education in the host country.
